Paul Bassett was crowned World Barista Champion in Boston, Massachusetts in 2003.  He is the first and only Australian to take the Gold in the history of the World Barista Championship.  Outperforming 28 talented barista in front of over 20 million TV viewers, Bassett took the gold and made his country proud.

Bassett is one of the world’s foremost contemporary coffee authorities and is focused and driven about his passion.  Bassett has always been a competitive person, which is what slowly drove him to be involved in coffee competitions.  With his decision to compete at such a high level, Bassett had to make a huge commitment to pursue his dream.  With the help of his community, family and friends, his dream became a reality.

It is not an easy task to become a world-class barista.  Knowledge is key: everything from sourcing beans to roasting to developing profiles and training skills are extremely important.  Bassett put a lot of time and energy into this task, consulting a sports psychologist to help him prepare mentally and a team of dedicated friends and industry professionals helped him on his way.

Bassett is now involved with the development of his own wholesale business.  His blend is a replication of the blend he used when he won the World Barista Championship in 2003.
